About Me

My name is Jonathan Greathouse. I am currently employed full-time as a Software Engineer in the St. Louis area while working to complete a graduate degree in Computer Science. I received my Bachelor of Science in Computer Science with a Minor in Mathematics from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville in May, 2005.

My main interests are in the areas of networks and data communications, operating systems development, and systems programming. I plan on specializing in one of these areas for my graduate degree.

I am a registered Libertarian, and a somewhat active member of the Libertarian Party. If you want some more information about Libertarianism, be sure to check out the Libertarian Pary website at http://www.lp.org/.

One of the more well known Libertarians (amongst Computer Scientists) is Eric S. Raymond, so be sure to head over there and read through some of his articles as well (like "The Cathedral and the Bazaar").

My hobbies include video games, music, and horror movies/books.

My taste in games is farily broad, ranging from the action and adventure genres to strategy and role-playing. I also prefer my games on a console rather than a PC. Not sure why, probably because I grew up with the NES and SNES. Microsoft's X-Box 360 is my favorite system at the moment, with Nintendo's GameCube and DS systems trailing closely behind.

My prime choice in music is definitely heavy metal. Slayer, Slipknot, Tarot, Amon Amarth, Marilyn Manson, Symphorce, Fleshcrawl, Devil Driver, Coal Chamger, Korn, White Zombie, and Quiet Riot; You name it. If it's metal, I probably like it. That's not all, though, I do enjoy classical music (I LOVE violins) as well as classic rock, like the Rolling Stones.

As for the scary stuff, H.P. Lovecraft might as well be the patron saint of all things horror. I own almost everything he had published and have enjoyed his works thoroughly. If you are a horror fan, I HIGHLY suggest that you give his works a shot. In the movie department, "The Gate" is my favorite flick, though I really enjoyed "In the Mouth of Madness." Rob Zombie's films, "House of 1000 Corpses" and "Devil's Rejects," are both near the top of my horror list.
